about
“Portage to Polly” is based on a true story that happened in Algonquin Park. My family and I were camped on Canisbay Lake. I suggested a day trip to Polly Lake, about 2 km that-a-way. See map on track art for details.
The black line connecting the two lakes represents a portage, meaning we’d have to carry one of our canoes. We had two, but I figured we could pile into one; us and just enough food and water for the day.
I promised we’d be back by noon, and made elaborate plans in case we weren’t, but all was contingent on one thing…
lyrics
There are two lakes in Algonquin Park
Called Canisbay Lake and Polly Lake
The distance between Canisbay Lake and Polly Lake (Polly Lake)
Is approximately two kilometers
The only way to get from Canisbay Lake to (to) Polly Lake
Is portage
Canisbay
Polly Lake
Heads or tails
I’ll make you a bet
I can get there
With your help
Let’s go this morning
We’ll pack up really light
Just enough food and water for the day
Just enough food and water for the day
We’ll be back by noon. I promise
We will be back by noon. I promise
And if we stay a bit longer
If we stay a bit longer
I’ll pack us enough songs
For the day, or the week, or the month, or even a year
It all depends on
It all depends on
It all depends on
How heavy is that canoe?
